For Week 8 our lectures had planned for the entire class to have a playtesting session. The aim of the game was to help give feedback on other people's games by playing them and then taking a survey.
When it came to my game a lot of testers were not familiar with racing games. A lot of testers liked FPS games, Story games, and RPGs.
I stood away from my computer when people played my game and I made notes on where people had issues in the game. This was useful as it made me aware of issues I didn't know of as well as bugs. A lot of people were clipping through trees and getting stuck in the barriers. A lot of players didn't know where to go on the track and they got easily confused.
In my feedback, a lot of testers thought that 3 laps was far too long. The testers also didn't like the moving obstacles as they thought they were too fast.
When it came to the positives a lot of testers liked the map, the bouncy feeling of the car, the camera switching, and the drifting when going around a smooth corner.
85.7% of playtesters liked the drifting and the other 14.3% didn't like the drifting.
I asked in my survey if there be any other features that you would like to be added I got a lot of responses. Some said they would like to see railing at the side of the road around the entire track as it was easy to clip through trees and the car would bounce off them. A lot of playtesters requested that there could be a boost mechanic. And the final response was that there should be more humps and hills.
I thought that this playtesting session was very helpful to help guide me in the right direction of where my game should be.
