*Key Software used Unreal Engine ver 5.0.3*

I worked on Full Throttle as a Solo Level Designer/Scripting during development.

My Responsibilities and Contributions on this project:

  • Developed and iterated on 2 level

  • Developed drift mechanic

  • Developed Boost mechanic

  • Developed Boost pickups

  • Added SFX & VFX

  • Developed UI for Main menu,

  • Developed Laps

  • Developed Timer

Pre-Production

I gathered images from different types of racing games and I took all of my favourite aspects and I tried to apply them to Full Throttle. Here are some examples:

I really like how some of the menus follow a grid layout with boxes. This makes it easy to naviagate for the player. I want to make the timer a big bigger and more in the centre as that it the primary focus for this game. I also like the controls being shown when driving like in Fortnite. This will help the player even if they forget.

SCAMPS!

I then designed some scamps to help me with the layout of a Full Throttle. This helped me when making the UI elements.

UI in action

The mechanics in Full Throttle are going to be Driving, A Timer, Laps and Boost. These mechanics are going to need UI to help the player understand how much Boost they have left as well as how to navigate through the level. It needs to be displayed clearly.

When the player uses there boost it will deplete and when the player picks up a boost pick up it will add onto the boost that is left. The UI also displays the controls on the Left for controller players.

The player needs to navigate through the menus so they don't feel overwhelmed when experiencing Full Throttle. When the player hovers over a button it will turn green to indicate to the player that that is where their mouse is.
