My first game for Games Design Ulster University Belfast, we were tasked to make a Call of Duty Zombies map with different enemy types, weapons pickups and much more. Being in a gameplay scripting role allowed me to create UI elements like the health and main menu.

UI
Pre-Production
For this being my first time using Unreal Engine 5, my lecture had given us a guide/tutorial on how to get the main mechanics working like shooting, as well as movement and AI. Once we had coded the basics we were allowed to implement other mechanics. I decided to add a grappling hook from other FPS like Halo Infinite and Titanfall 2, as well as a heath pickup. For level design I took inspiration from Tesco's and how some stores have 2 floors. I was able to take inspiration from my local Tesco.
UI in action
The mechanics in this FPS are going to be shooting, movement, health and a grapple hook. Most of these mechanics are going to need UI to help the player understand how much health they have left as well as ammo. It needs to be displayed clearly. When the player gets damaged i also want to display a blood splatter effect on screen so the it is easily communicated to the player that they are damaged and they are loosing health.
When the player uses their ammo it take one away every time a bullet is fired. Once the ammo reashes zero the gun can no longer be used. The player can easily pick up ammo pickups and the ammo will propperly display how many they have currently. This works will all guns.
When the player gets damaged the Health bar will decrease from 100. Each zombie type has there own damage number. Every time the player gets hit a fade in screen of blood apears to help the player understand that they are losing health. Once the player loses all of there health they die. There are also Health pick up items that the player can replenish there health.
There is also a point system as well, and when the player kills more zombies, they collect points. Once they collect a certain amount of points the game will end. This will have to be displayed clearly so that the player understands how many points they have currently. The counter is located in the top Right.
